I am Scared

A very bad start
If this is the start of the second presidential term I truly dread the rest.
I am the mother of two young daughters. The next few years are vital for them. The time futures will be decided.

I am scared
Our leader is ruthless. Does not care about the opinion of others. His buddies are the leaders of Libya, Burma, Iran, China and Russia. I don't think MR sees anything wrong in what he does. A sociopath like his best buddies. I lived through the Premadasa era. This could be worse.

I am a pessimist so usually things turn out better than I expected.
Today I am in shock.
I don't know what to expect.
So I am scared.

  3. Ha ha Ha, this is a joke right?

JR's Reprisals in 77 and 82 remember, people were murders and homes and shops we burnt? Ohhh and in 83 Tamils were stoned to death and set alight alive, shops and homes ransacked and burnt!

Most importantly if you had forgotten 88/89 UNP/JVP... where peoples hands were chopped of in front of their children, mothers & children forced to eat their husbands/fathers flesh, school kids were used by JVP to burn tires and protests, then only to be taken away in the night by Yellow/Black Cats... find them in the morning with nails driven into their skulls, feet cut by razor blades and then dipped in chilli, eyes and nails pulled out, male genitals were put n drawers and then slammed shut, pens were driver from one ear to the other through the skull, burning tires were put over the shoulder on live kids, S-lon pipes were rammed into the anus and then barb wire was inserted through them - next the pipe was pulled out leaving the barb-wire inside and then it was yanked out, girls were raped, their breast we cut off, red hot iron rods were driven into their vaginas, heads were chopped off and stuck on polls and displayed in University roundabouts, five ten bodies used to go floating down every river... and mind you as kids we used to see this on our way to school everyday in the years 88/89...! Transformers and Electricity meters were smashed, NICs were forcibly taken at gunpoint, Buses were burnt, you were not allowed to switch on light in the night, kids could not study... this is just skimming the surface... but any way 50,000 lives were lost!

And remember the 30 years of War... you never know if your loved one who went to town will come back... you never know if you will be alive the next second, whether today you kid's school will be targeted by a suicide bomber... and then 80,000 lives lost!

So you got to be joking right about this... "I am scared for my kids" LOL.... either you have never lived in Sri Lanka for the last 30 years.. or you have a bad case of Amnesia!

  4. I'm curious, does a dissenting opinion have to be stated along with the colorful language and posted anonymously?

  7. The responces to this post truely demonstrate what is wrong with Sri Lanka today. Any descenting opinon is trated with destain, insults and threats.

I also have news for the people who say if you do not like it leave SL.. People are already moving out of sri lanka (as soon as they can afford to). People who believe in the rule of law, who are against violence, and quiet frankly want a better standard of living as compared to what is available in Sri Lanka.

  8. i have an 16 month old daughter and proud to live here and continue to live here. I moved back to sri lanka in 2006 from switzerland so that we could have a better quality of life. and i am enjoying it in so many many different ways.

as Bardo and Anon3 put it - remember the time under the jvp and unp in 88/89/90 - now that was terror. i remember driving to work and crossing the kelaniya bridge to watch bodies floating by.

SF's arrest was not by civilian authorities but by the military - the same ones who would not take away his vehicles shortly after vacated the post of CDS. he has been provided with ALL the civilities accorded to hs arrest include visits by his family and access to lawyers.

incidentally SF's accusation against GR about ordering Nadesan and Pulliyan's death when they were surrendering does not seem to hold any water with even the likes of DBS Jeyraj. read this blog in entirety http://dbsjeyaraj.com/dbsj/archives/1267
